Bluegrass Prevention

The Prevention Program’s primary focus is not client based, but rather, community-based through strategic planning, education, and environmental strategies targeting alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse prevention, as well as mental health promotion. Prevention staff work closely with local Kentucky Agency for Substance Abuse Policy Boards (KY-ASAP), schools, and other community groups and agencies throughout the 17-county Bluegrass region.

Prevention provides current information and/or training on preventing the use/abuse of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, prescription drugs, synthetic drugs, and other emerging substances.

Prevention services also include:

  • Zero Tolerance program—a 20-hour educational program for those Under 21 who are cited for drinking and driving. Referrals come from the court system. Currently, one session (4 classes total) is held each month in Lexington.

  • Bridges Program—an early intervention program designed for youth and their parents/guardians. Referrals come from the court or school system.
