Bluegrass Turns Red

Over 300 Bluegrass employees wore red on February 6 in recognition of National Wear Red Day.  Go Red For Women empowers women with knowledge and tools so they can take positive action to reduce their risks of heart disease and stroke and protect their health.  Bluegrass employees received educational materials related to how to reduce and prevent their risk and made a visual impact by wearing red.  Participating employees are eligible for prizes and drawings.

Although significant progress has been made in increasing awareness among women from 34 percent in 2000 to 57 percent in 2006, too few people realize that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of American women. About 480,000 women die of cardiovascular disease annually, more than the total number of cardiovascular disease-related deaths in men or the next four causes of death combined.  The good news is that heart disease is largely preventable. Spreading the Go Red For Women message raises awareness of heart disease and empowers women to reduce their risk by learning the steps to prevent it.

Check out goredforwomen.org for more about how to reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke.
