What is the difference between traditional foster care and therapeutic foster care?
Traditional foster care is usually provided by local DCBS counties and is intended to be a temporary placement until the child is able to return home or adopted.
Therapeutic foster care is usually provided by Private Child Care Agencies, such as Bluegrass TFC, and is intended to be temporary placement until the child is returned home, to another family member, a higher level of placement, or adoption.
Describe the children who typically enter therapeutic foster care.
The children who enter our program are much like your own children, except they have witnessed or have been involved in domestic abuse, violence, neglect or emotional distress. Bluegrass TFC, being a part of a larger mental health organization, is able to provide outpatient and in-home therapy as part of the child’s treatment plan.
