Working with children and families for 50 years, Bluegrass has maintained a focus on centering treatment plans around the child. Our continuum of care brings people together from different parts of the community to coordinate services best suited for each family. Our approach is person-centered, trauma-informed using evidenced-based practices.
Continuum of Care
Early Childhood Expertise
Bluegrass staff have direct access to training and consultation to guide practice in working with children and their families who may require nurturing and attachment support along with strategies for emotional and behavioral acting out.
Outpatient Clinical Therapy
Our master’s level clinicians are trained in evidence-based practices. At Bluegrass, we make intentional connects immediately with children and caregivers to understand the reasons therapy services are needed. We measure progress at every session to stay on track and help family reach and maintain recovery.
Throughout our 17 county service area, Bluegrass provides therapy services within the school setting. These services can include teachers, counselors, coaches and school staff. We can meet with families at school when possible. This flexibility breaks down the barriers of keeping appointments and prevents unnecessary lengths of time away from the school day.
IMPACT Targeted Case Management
The IMPACT program is for children diagnosed with severe emotional disturbance. IMPACT seeks to empower families by identifying their strengths and creating a plan that includes community resources and support to help the family. High Fidelity Wraparound Services
Wraparound services are designed for families of children whose serve behavioral health issues have not responded well to other interventions and are causing significant disruptions to the life of the child and family. Services are offered in Clark, Fayette, Madison and Scott counties. Click here for more information on Wraparound.
Individual circumstances may require psychotropic medication assessment and treatment. These services occur in tandem with therapy services and aren’t standalone services. At Bluegrass, we believe strongly in prescribing medication on a limited basis and only as a part of therapy.
Community Support Services
These trained specialists provide assistance to therapists and case managers with specific skills identified on the treatment plan. Community Support Specialists may teach parenting skills, budgeting, coping skills, how to access transportation, reminders or medications and other skills.
Peer Support Services
Peer support specialists provide emotional support from their own similar experiences. Peers are trained individuals who work with families by providing socialization, therapeutic activities as well as skill building.

Partners for Change Outcome Management System
PCOMS is a practice emphasizing client voice and outcomes measurement as central features. It asks global distress questions at every session to connect provider and client in a valid and reliable way that can be tracked and measured. This promotes an alliance connecting the areas clients want to see be different with data driven outcomes to keep progress on track or suggest changes in the event desired change isn’t happening.
MI is an approach to increase the client’s awareness of the potential problems caused, consequences experienced and risks faced as a result of the behavior in question. It seeks to help clients think differently about their behavior and ultimately consider what might be gained through change.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
CBH, including trauma-informed care, is a problem-focused and action-oriented therapy. CBH considers the influence a person’s thoughts, feelings and behaviors and develops strategies to reduce symptoms and distress by learning new skills and coping methods.
Our clinicians work to strengthen the attachment between caregiver and child while exploring the family history, cultural and spiritual beliefs and any past history of trauma. This model of therapy helps with adaptive coping and teaches the caregiver how to help and support the child after a traumatic event has occurred. Additionally, we work to build the skill set of the caregiver so they feel comfortable using these skills with the child on their own to maintain a healthy life for the child. We explore what skills and resources caregivers are already using and build on that skill set.
